What does the Bafang gear-shifting sensor do?
It detects a shift and briefly interrupts motor assistance to reduce drivetrain load. This listing is for a compatible BBSHD setup; it does not replace easing pedal pressure and making correctly adjusted gear changes.

Mid-drive motors are powerful. They put a lot of torque through the chain.
The thing is that when you are shifting the chain through the gears, the motor does not know that. This gear sensor will automatically detect shifting and cut out the motor power for a second. This way, the gear shifting is safe. You do not have to worry about breaking the chain and derailleur.
